The method is recommended from birth up to the age of 3 weeks. The procedure is bloodless and easy to perform. There is potential for missed testicles during handling, therefore careful verification of positioning is required before releasing the ring. Vaccination is recommended for protection against tetanus and blackening, and should be carried out several weeks before the procedure. Castration with rubber rings cuts off the blood supply to the testicles. The band is released just above the top part of the testicles (approximately 0.5 cm) and not at the base of the scrotum. It must be checked that both testicles are still at the top of the scrotum and that the ring is correctly positioned. If not, the ring should be cut with scissors and the procedure repeated. The lack of blood supply causes the testicles to die, and over time the scrotum and testicles fall off the body.
